Saskatchewan Water Chemistry & Ecology
We’re a dynamic group of researchers interested in water and water-land connections to help support water and food security. We support basic science and applied solutions to help guide decision-making for ecosystem services associated with water and land, focusing on water, water quality, and agriculture. We work extensively with partners and collaborators in government and industry, seeking pragmatic science-based solutions for current water challenges.
Our expertise centers on Eutrophication (nutrient pollution), Land Management, Biogeochemistry, Ecology, Greenhouse gas emissions, Lake management, and broad ecosystem services with growing strengths aimed at informing decision-making.
Global change affects water in every possible way. Our work helps understand the basic science and applied solutions that will help guide decision making to protect water, water quality, and ecosystem services associated with water.
Working together to ensure better water quality and protect crucial ecosystem services of lakes, rivers, and wetlands.
We value water, and target our work to understanding the science of water, threats to water, and opportunities to restore and protect waters. We want to help ensure healthy, swimmable, and drinkable waters for generations to come.
We value work-life balance, and know that it can be hard but try to keep this as part of our dialogue and as one of our priorities.
We value happiness and find this in diverse ways.
We value diversity in all its forms and work towards a more equitable world of science, and the world as a whole.
We work hard at disseminating and communicating our science because it makes us happy, adds value to our work, and most of all, because our work is aimed at helping understand, restore, and protect water.
We listen and talk to partners, stakeholders, and rightsholders whenever we can. We do this to make sure we’re asking the right questions, in the right way, and that we know their thoughts. We do this to make sure our work matters and help provide recommendations, working towards solutions with diverse decisionmakers.
We connect personally. We are a strong network of support. We care about other people in our group and beyond and are surrounded by a sense of caring. We want each other to succeed. We aim to be there for each other for years and decades to come.
We care about what we do and share common goals and interests. We care about water quality and the environment. We enjoy the outdoors and share our experiences. We are invested in our work. We value learning and education, so we continue to invest in teaching and learning in each of our diverse roles. We also talk about our lives beyond the lab.
We have many strong bonds, and we cheer each other on.
